Kahwin

This week is certainly one heck of a character building week. God must really want to test my patience since I've always been seeking His guidance for patience. "Ask and you shall receive." I've never thought that this "test" would hit me like a truck.

As I've mentioned earlier, it started with the computer server. Then, it was the business management, staff issues and now this??? Alright, I really do not need THIS! In case you guys out there are looking dumbfounded on what the hell I'm talking about, it's the topic on marriage.

I knew this topic of me not beeing married is going to creep up sometime but I was expecting it from my immediate family or at least from my closest buddies. Not some ex-colleagues that I've not seen or kept in touch for like 6 years or so. This was really unexpected and to a certain extend, I felt that my privacy was invaded by these people.

It all started this morning amidst the chaos of phones ringing and trying to get urgent emails sent out from a semi-comatose server. I happened to receive a call from an ex-colleague which I've not seen or spoken for quite some time. Mind you, I've changed 4 different companies since we were last working together. Anyway, after exchanging "hello"s and updating each other, she asked,

"So, are you married?"

Naturally, I replied, "Nope." Like I usually do.

Then, it came... "Well, actually so and so from the accounts department was asking, when are you getting married?"and "So and so from this and that department was also asking when can they receive your wedding invitation?"

It turned out that this call was actually made specifically because the entire office was asking when I was going to get married! I was dumb founded for a while...And I kept on thinking why should anyone who has not seen me for 3/4 of a decade is pushing me to get married? I'm not sure whether it is just human nature to be kay po, or is it such a heinous crime that one should be thrown into fiery pits of fire from hell because he/she is not married?

I have no objections or anything against the sanctity of marriage. But, I believe that one should marry when he/ she is truly ready and commited to each other. At this moment, I'm not sure whether I am ready for this type of commitment. Pets and plants? Yes. But marriage??? That is such a BIG word! I do admit that I may have some commitment issues, but can you blame a person who has had past relationships that were traumatic enough to scar a person for life? At this moment, I am quite contented to be single. In fact, I kinda enjoy it. Lotsa people think that I'm wierd because I chose to be single for the moment. But again, is it a crime?

It seems like at my age, everyone is expecting me to be hitched or at least be a "serial dater." Come on!!! I mean, I've not reached the stage where people are so desperate that they would have to join reality shows that features 20 guys wooing 1 girl. That's what you call desperate!!!

To be honest, I do enjoy going out dating once in a while. It's sort of like making up for lost time during my teenage years since I was put in an all boys school and my parents were super strict about dating policies (that means no gf's when you are in school). But at this moment, I would like it to remain as just that.

So, to those of you who's thinking about asking me THAT question again? Don't bother cause I may just give out your number to a dating agency and let you have a feel what it's like to be in the broiler, OK??? Blek!!!

Alright, I've got work to do. Shoo!!! shoo!!!

Time management

Alright... I am in trouble!!! I've overbooked my schedule again! There's got to be a way to do this better. You see, running several business portfolio isn't exactly an easy feat.

Last weekend, I thought that I would be able to catch my breath with most issues taken care of. Come Monday, all hell break loose with system problems and indecisive client's wanting to do the impossibles within the constrains of local and international laws. To top it up I totally forgot that Ramadhan has started and that means, soft material and interior business is ON AGAIN!!! Now, I've to balance my time precariously on thin ice. One minute solving some logistical issues and the next, measuring windows and giving out opinion on what material looks good on them.

It's not the job that kills me, I love my job. It's just that sometimes, the distance on running around North to South and East to West in one day is taking the toll on my energy & sanity. Thank God my trusty "taxi" is able to take my battering all these 6 years. **muaks!!**

I hope that I can push along this month before losing my head. Happy pill, happy pill please!!!!!!!!!!

Watudu?

The office has gone chaotic again when the goddamn server kaput again. Sigh... this time it is the accounting system. Apparently the system was corrupted. Every now and then, the server will shut itself down like it has a life of its own. **Imagine** work...work...work... time for siesta...shut down....

It's been like this the whole month. Apparently, the software guy told me that it would be best not to share the accounting server with the internet server. Wah!!! I was just imagining more $$$ flying out as he was babbling in lightning speed using languages that I have never heard before. Anyway, I told him that I would think about it lah. Not that I knew very much what he was saying anyway. :-P

For the time being, my poor CS would have to prepare her invoicing manually first lah. I can see how "black" her face is right now but like I said, watudu??? I need to put in some serious thought before giving a go-a-head to buy another server. No need money one meh???

Ginseng too tired to think d... wanna go home and hibernate.

One wedding and four stomachs

I'm back from Ipoh AND I survived!!! Nyeh, nyeh, nyeh......XD

The wedding reception was simple and... um, typical Chinese lah. Well, not so typical Chinese in the sense that we were already stuffing our fat little faces with chunks of roast piglet, then only the Bride and Groom made their grand entrance. The bride was late this time, Wuakakakakaka!!! The food couldn't wait and we happily ate first. We were already well into our 2nd dish when they did the "walk down the isle" (wedding march song at the background).

The dishes were generally much better than KL for the price they paid. I have to say that my Aunt did an excellent choice for the dishes, 5 season cold dish (with scallops, prawns and loads of different types of seafood, yummy!!!), roast piglet, steamed giant white pomfret, fried jumbo prawns, ginger chicken with rice wine, a wonderful platter of vegetable medley, fried rice and lin chee kan (with loads of lin chee, OK!!!) and Chinese pastries. They decided to forego sharks fins cause it's cruel and not worth the money **Thumbs up**. Too bad I don't have a digicam. Otherwise, I would have taken the pics of all the dishes. Hehehe.

Well, the big " when izzit your turn, ah?" question had to be asked by the entire people on my table (Gosh! The opponent size seems to get bigger every year. **sweat**) However, I think I did a good job and tai chi-ed the question pretty well lah. Lucky thing I still have quite a number of unmarried cousins (much older than me) that I can still run and hide for cover. AHAKS!

Apart from the wedding banquet, Ipoh was generally a big makansutra for me and my family. We arrived pretty early in Ipoh, around 10am. Upon arrival, my Aunt was already stuffing us with Ipoh hor fun, poh piah (2 types summore!), fried noodles, curry chicken, our famous family achar, lobak and God knows what lah! That was only breakfast, mind you!

We wobbled over to the car 2 hours later to go out for lunch. Famous ngou lam meen (beef soup noodles)!!! Ayo! So damn full man! On the way back, we had to stop over in Menglembu to to the kacang puteh factory to load the car with enough kacang puteh to feed the entire universe. Cheap, fresh and good wor! Can taste before you buy summore. Apparently, all the kacang puteh we buy on the street comes from this little sleepy hollow part in Ipoh. Facinating! I would definitely come back for more. Next stop, to the pomelo shop in downtown since mom wanted to get one or two. We ended up with 15!!! Sigh... women + shopping = beli lori!

Anyway, the eating part continued all night long even after the wedding dinner (yes, we were still eating at home after the dinner, coupled with booze). Slept for like 3 hours and repeated the eating frenzy in the morning. After gaining several tonnes, my Aunt gave a nod of approval and allowed us to roll ourselves into whatever space was available in the car (from all that shopping lor) so that we could make the journey back to KL.

Ah Yee, thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality. We love you! To my cousin and his beautiful wife, congratulations on you wedding! Muah muah!!!

Sniffles

I have to say that the bizarre weather lately in the Klang Valley have finally taken a toll on my health... **sniffles ** sniffles** snort***

I sensed it was coming last night whn my nose just wouldn't stop itching like crazy. This morning, it's stuffed and clogged. Sigh... (wonder if Oliviasy has passed her sickness over via the net or not??? Hehehehehehe...just joking my friend!)

Anyway, I'm going to drug myself tonite with codeine and hopefully sleep it off till tomorrow. I'll be leaving early in the morning for Ipoh with my family to attend yet another family wedding. You've no idea how I dread these functions especially when one's single and have loads of ye mah ku chehs popping that infamous question "When izzit your turn ah?"

Well, I'll leave that for another day lah. I so wanna tidur! ***Ahhh CHOOOO!!!!!***Sniffles***

ye mah ku chehs = Aunts and elder female relatives

Customer is always right (or are they???)

IYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The broadband line has decided to mogok again. Now every single customer is calling to complain. However, this particular call from one CHIBAI tops the list.

Customer: "Why booking confirmation late ah?"

Me: "So sorry, the internet line is facing some problem. Can we fax a copy to you first?"

Customer: "Fax ah??? Very blur one... dowan!!! Please email now!"

Me: "But ma'am, the internet line is down. We can't email at this moment until the line is up.
Perhaps we can fax first and then email to you once the line is up?"

Customer: "But I WANT it in email format lah!"

Me: Bengang tone "Please understand ma'am, the internet line is down. In fact all lines in the area is down. We have made a report and TM people is fixing it now. Please be patient."

Customer: Shouting already "Then quickly fix it lah!!!! My customer in Timbaktu cannot wait you know??!!!"

Me: ................

Customer: "Hello???? Are you still there???"

Me: "Yes ma'am. I'm still listening. Now what do you recommend that we do?"

Customer: "I need it in email. Understand or not?"

Me: "Yes. I'll go out ask the TM people to move aside and I'll personally fix the internet line lah."

Customer: "See? You should have done that earlier lah. I wait for your email."

Me: ....................

Customer: "Thanks. ...bye." Hangs up

Me: "Machauhai????!!!!! Like that also can ah????" Bengang like mad now.

Mogok = on strike
Bengang = pissed off

Is there a pause button somewhere???

Ayo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another issue breaks open after one is being closed. What is our world becoming lah??? I'm posting about the Pope's apology. And certain group of people are still not satisfied about his apology and wants His Papacy to apologise the way they wanted it. Some parties even want him tried in the international court. Come on people!!!! An apology is an apology. Let's get on with our lives for God's sake! Is it going to make your life any better if he apologises in the way one party wants? Wait, then the other party will not be happy and wants the Pope to apologise in another method. Soon, we will have another round of chaos & fighting on how the Pope should apologise. This is so rediculous! To those who can't wait to lambast me with negative comments, I am merely using this as the latest example on social unrest, ok? I don't care who's religion is right or wrong or who thinks who's is more superior. I just want world peace! Blek!

It's such a shame that we people are getting so super sensitive these days. Almost everything is used as an excuse for demonstration, social unrest and war. It would be good if everyone would just shut up and pause for a moment. Take a step back and reflect. What is this going to lead to? How is this going to effect my family, loved ones, country, economy? Why are we letting some lame politician with their personal agenda rule and ruin our lives because he/she hates another politician's guts and ideology? It's really time to stop and think lah...

Writer is extremely tired on lame news around the world. Gimme a happy pill!

Double Boiling Pot!
Who's got a double boiling pot?!? Ginseng?!?

*koff koff* *hack hack* *wheeze*

Lack of sleep, so farking tired now~~~~

Good news or bad news?

We've been thrown into a world of chaos since we have this new agency in our portfolio. The biggest headache is of course, manpower lah! While we have no choice but to multi-task, I've the priviledge to do everyone's work (sigh!!!) & to look for a suitable candidate to sit in the much needed customer service position.

Come interview day, you'll see all sorts of people. People with super degrees and demanding salary higher than mine (makes me wanna whack their silly heads with they resume..toink!!!), people who have no idea what is a customer service (toink...toink again!!!!). To make things short, I've met up with the entire Barnum & Bailey's Circus lah! Then, came in this petite lady. Shy looking, but determined. After 30 minutes talking to her, I think I've found the right candidate.

So, here she comes in starting her training (thought that 3 weeks should be ok lah, since the office is so chaotic). I was pleasantly surprised to see that she picked up every single job effortlessly. She take notes and actually asked (compared to those bodoh sombong's that I've encountered in the past) whenever she wasn't sure. I give her A plus ler!!!!

She's so perfect (in terms of job ler... what are you ppl thinking of???). In fact, too perfect. She never did a single mistake since she came in. Call me a cynic but I've never seen someone like her before! Even Bree Van Dekamp makes mistakes, ok!!!! Loads of it some more! What I'm actually worried here is two things. That she may get big headed when she knows her job too well and secondly, she could use it against the company by trying to demand for the sky. I'm sure whoever is reading this at this point must be thinking that I am some jealous "has been" who just cannot stand to see fresh blood. But I'm really worried coz I've encountered numerous genuinely good staffs who ends up being liabilities because they used their expertise against the company when they can't get what they demanded. I do believe in rewarding good staff, but there are also limits on how much one can afford to reward. Sad thing here is, most staff would not understand that part.

Perhaps I am just being over recting. Maybe she's really good and do not have any hidden agenda. So, just enjoy her welcoming assistance and give yourself a breather lah Ginseng boi. Maybe she will make a silly mistake soon... happy Monday everyone!!!

Bodoh sombong = idiots who think they are smart.

Saturday Blues

Hayo!!!! Saturday also have to work!!! I just do not understand how this half day thingy is going to make any difference in enriching the economy. Least to say, enriching our lives???!!!

Come on! Think about it, most of my clients insists that we open our offices on Saturdays "in case" they need our help. And the irony here is, most of them do not work on Saturdays! It's been a norm for our industry to kow tow to our clients because "customer's are always right", right? WRONG!!! I've worked overseas before and I've never had to come in on a Saturday. Not even once. I was in the car rental service some more!!! Even if there is any problems, there is always the telephone and internet right? Besides, if something did happen, and it would involve my agents overseas (particularly on the Western Hemisphere), do you think they would give 2 hoots about it? No!!! Because they DO NOT work on Saturdays either! The point here is, if some thing wrong has happened, it has happened. You can't turn it around and un"happen" it. :-P So, why can't we just solve the issues on Monday, leaving the weekends free with blissfully quality time for family and loved ones? I guess most Asians just do not know how to let go and have a little bit of fun. Or, perhaps my client's have sadistic tendency of deriving pleasure from making us come to work on Saturdays while they don't?

One more hour to go before 12pm... what a waste of time here... *sigh...* sob sob

kow tow = worship

Guest Blogging
I'm guest blogging in my Ginseng's blog. WUAKAKKAKAKAAKAKAKAKAK!!!!!

Ok, a little bit of info about me good self. I hibernate in my own blog located here. Ginseng boi here is one of my neighbours in another block. Did I just call him "boi"? WUAKAKAKAKA!!! XD

What's Ginseng like? Well, he sold me some bamboo blinds previously (which reminds me, gotta ask him how come the bamboo blinds macam grow little bits of fungus liddat). Ginseng's living the life of a free bachelor (yes ladies, he's still available *ahem*), has a nice house and stable (but often stressful, poor guy) career. Also, Ginseng's house is probably the only condo unit I know of that has a 2.5Hp squarish-office-looking air-con! I kid you not! It's the first thing you will see when you look at the ceiling :P Ginseng probably spends too much time under all these type of air-cons, hence probably took a liking to them.

That's all from me today! Cheerios! Blek!

El Stupido...

I read with amusement on Mary Schneider's musings from The Star about this supposedly miracle pill that can cure stupidity. Imagine what I'll do if I have that pill in my hand. In fact I can think right off my head on who needs the pill with immediate effect too. Here's the top 10 list of people who will be given foremost priority treatment.

1. MP's who bitchs and whimper in Parliment because he can't buy the michidis bens he wanted.
2. Politicians who implements ruling and spread all over the media and then overthrows them the next day.
3. Younger politician wannabe's who slurs racial remarks and then buat dunno and denied what they said.
4. Malaysian drivers who obtained their kopi "o" license and doesn't know that indicators exists in every car.
5. Mat rempits get 3 times dosage!!!
6. Utilities dept.'s customer service personnel who are just too dumb to read and process application forms.
7. Government service personnels who have turned into vegetables because their fat asses are permanently plonked in the staff canteen.
8. Lying elderly people who have nothing to do and trying to be politician wannabe's, terrorising their condo neighborhood.
9. Not so elderly people who have not enough grey matter to think on their own, supporting these elderly terrorist. (please refer to no. 8)
10. Customers who doesn't know that their 1 sen cannot by the world and make people kiss their feet.

Stupid people!!!!!! I'm not in a good mood. Blek!!!!

Mong mong

THE HAZE IS BACK!!! This morning, I was greeted by a thick cloud like layer enveloping the entire Klang Valley. And this is after a heavy rain early in the morning some more! Hai... Why is it so that our goddamn &%$#^*&^^ neighbouring country cannot understand that open burning is environmentally hazardous???!!!

I can still remember those days when I was a little kid where such things do not exist. That was even before open burning in Malaysia was banned! And we didn't have haze at that time. Why now? Have our neighbors decided in recent years that by blazing down the entire island is going to make them a gadzillion times richer? Or is it that their own people's lives are so insignificant that if the fires get out of hand, then... too bad lah! Kanineh!!! Killing your own people is bad enough, why must they kill us as well with their polution.

I also read somewhere that the President of this particular country was one of the first to object in signing a global treaty against open burning. It clearly shows how much they care for themselves and little for the world. Sigh... I just do not understand how in the world can this moron get himself seated as president in the first place? Anyway, we'll save that topic for another day. Meanwhile, I'll just have to brave the haze and hope that a giant truck would not run me over because he has zero visibility. Where's my gas mask???!!!!!!!!!!!

Priorities....Priorities

After all that months of slogging, (note: slave like labour...), I've finally been blessed with some durian runtuh. Ahhh... at least my hard work paid off a bit lah.

So, it's finally time to reward myself a bit. National Day was shopping day for me. I've decided to shop for furniture (hey, it's been long overdue to fill up my pad since I moved in ok?) Found this marvelous place in Puchong that sells a wide variety of teak wood furniture. From the glam glam Mak Datin type to the rustic old world designs. I personally like the old world designs and it would certainly fit in with my existing furniture. After scouring every inch of the shop, I finally purchased an Indian-Anglo style consol table with a huge mahogany wall mirror and a standing mirror which I am planning to use as a screen at my front entrance. I'm so liking the effect the new addition did to my apartment. So, I guess I'll be shopping for more again next month lah... Sigh.... Wish I can make $$$ as fast as I spend.

Glam glam = creole short form for glamour
Mak Datin = term used for high society women
Durian runtuh = receiving unexpected amount of wealth

7th month

Gosh...it's been a long time since I posted anything up. Perhaps my neighbours' nickname for me, chat yiut* certainly fits the bill lah. :-P This is because I have been so engrossed with work and I've not been joining in the activities they had organised. It was only of late, that I happen to show up again at their gatherings...and it happened to be the inauspicious "Ghost month" in the Chinese calender. So, I am like the hungry ghost that was let loose from the gates of Hades, visiting the real world. Because of this, I am now stuck with the name "Chat yuit" lah!

Anyways, it is certainly a refreshing change to hang out (haunt them neighbours is more like it..BWAHAHAHAHA!!!) with them from the daily grill I'm subjecting myself to in the name of career and fortune. Sometimes I wonder whether is it worth all the slogging for the additional moolah or not. Sigh... got no money susah, wanna find more money, lagi susah... I guess life is like that. You want something, you've gotta slog for it. There is no short cut to it, unless someone is kind enough to burn a bus load of hell notes with all the afterworld luxuries to me lah (Ghost mah!!!)

Well, whatever it is, I definitely need to strike a balance in my life. Otherwise, this label would probably get stuck with me for evah! Peace!

* Cantonese for 7th month
